Transnet resorts to manual operations for rail, port
Updated | By Karabo Tebele
Transnet has had to resort to making use of its manual operation system following a cyber-attack on its IT system.
The transport entity announced on Thursday that its IT system was disrupted, which halted key operations for the state-owned freight rail and logistics company.
Transnet General Manager on Corporate Affairs Ayanda Shezi says they are prioritising rail and port operations.
"Transnet has managed to identify the source of the disruption into our IT systems and we have got the technical team deployed to work around the clock to ensure that the impact on our operation remains minimal.
"For now, we are continuing with manual operations across the rail and port businesses.
"We are prioritising time-sensitive exports, including the reefer containers, as part of the citrus season which is underway."
eNCA earlier reported that Transnet had been the victim of a ransomware attack.
