'We have 10 days to vaccinate our teachers' – GDE

The Gauteng Department of Education is hopeful that the vaccination drive for teachers will help them curb the spread of the virus at schools.
The Gauteng Department of Education says national government hast set a target of vaccinating all teachers in 10 days.
Provincial education spokesperson, Steve Mabona was providing an update on the impact of the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic on the province’s schools on Friday.
"When you look at educators coming from all sectors... the total number there [of infections] comes to 1509," said Mabona.
He added that 195 admin workers are infected, followed by 82 general assistants, and 63 youth brigade workers.

The Department is hopeful that the vaccination drive for teachers will help them curb the spread of the virus at schools.
“This process needs to take place in 10 days so it will mean that so the Department of Education, working very closely with the Department of Health, we will ensure that we avail our staff so that they can then receive the doses,” said Mabona.
As of Thursday, the country had received a consignment of 300 000 vaccines, earmarked for teachers, with more expected next week.
