Filipa on MBD
Updated | By Michael Savage
Up and coming South African female singer Filipa’s rendition of One Direction’s smash hit ‘Story Of My Life’ has been selected to partake in US radio and television personality Ryan Seacrest’s search for the best YouTube cover of the song.
Martin Bester caught up with the rising South African songstress, and chatted to her about this incredible opportunity.
The competition is being run on Seacrest’s website where 26 versions of the single have been put out to public vote. Seacrest is one of America’s top radio DJs and is better known as host of American Idol.
“This has to be one of the most exciting moments for me, being recognised as one of 26 top covers by Ryan Seacrest and his team and I really want to get as far as I can in this competition and really call on my friends and fans to support me and vote,” said an excited Filipa, who recently matriculated and celebrated her 18th birthday.

Filipa’s version of ‘Story of My Life’ was produced and recorded by top local producers Brian O’Shea and Crighton Goodwill. The music video, with its Pearl Harbour theme, was directed and edited by Kyle White and shot on the elite Red Epic camera.
Filipa is working on her debut album and her first original single is set for release in March 2014. She shot right on to the radar of the South African music business after releasing another cover of a Maroon 5 classic in October.
