Massive accident in Alberton - PICS

More than 20 vehicles were hit by a petrol tanker which went out of control on the N12 in Alberton on Tuesday morning, paramedics said.

"A petrol tanker lost control heading down the N12 near Voortrekker Road in Alberton," ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said.

 

"He collided with multiple vehicles. ER24 as well as other medical services have begun treating the injured.

 

Netcare911 spokesman Santi Steinmann said one critically injured patient was airlifted to hospital.

 

It was believed the accident happened around 7.30am.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Update: Two people were killed and according to updated information over 15 people were injured when the petrol tanker crashed in rush hour traffic. 

"Three people sustained critical injuries. Two patients were airlifted by the Netcare1 helicopter and one patient rushed to hospital for the urgent... care they required," Netcare 911 spokeswoman Santi Steinmann said in a statement.

 

"Seventeen people sustained injuries ranging from moderate to serious and were transported to various hospitals after receiving medical treatment on scene."
