Sinkholes are common in South Africa and only a month ago, Jacaranda FM reported on a sinkhole in George. It is alleged that the sinkhole formed after a pipe burst in the Genevafontein area in George. Videos have been circulating online showing community members surrounding the car in the middle of the road. Some mentioned that the area was cordoned off when the vehicle went in.
It is unclear what the cause of the sinkhole in the Cape Town CBD was.
