When asked how he came to realise that this was his calling he says: "An old man would come into my dreams and teach me about the bones and medicines. At other times, it was a young black sangoma teaching me how to read the bones too,” he said.
Although a twist on the traditional healer is nothing new, an 11-year old a white sangoma is quite the exeption to the rule. Todd, a grade five pupil, under the guidance of his his trainer, Solomon Mathebula, has been a fully-fledged sangoma since October 2014.
Todd's parents are supportive of his spiritual journey but they also want him to fulfil his dream of being a pharmacist.
“We have kept him from practicing at home so that he can concentrate on his school work because his education has to come first,” said his father, Michael Todd.
This is what happened in studio when Kyle (Frank Marshall) threw the bones to see if he could change Rian's luck.
