In it's second year running, The Sun International CEO SleepOut™ has been described as an incredible initiative by Rudi Schmidt, Group CEO of Assupol, who also took part in its inaugural year: “I participated last year. I think it was an awesome experience from my side, I think having the privilege to participate in something that is so big and has such a meaningful and lasting impact I think was really great. If one looks at the beneficiaries from last year’s event (Girls & Boys Town), I think it’s had a lasting impact and also on the learners that are there.”

What do you think Rudi expects from this year?: “I think it’s totally exposed so I think the wind is going to come through and we’re going to have our challenge which is to keep warm at night. Right now, no, the staff don’t know that I’m participating again, we’ve got a launch late next week and we’re trying also to organise a slept with all our senior staff at our offices to partipate on their side and also to give a bit of their time and understand what it’s like to sleep out in the cold and be exposed for the evening.”

Rudi has a B.Com Accounting (Hons) in Investment Management. He was a non-executive director of Assupol from 2000 to May 2010, when he was appointed Group CEO. He brought with him a wealth of experience gained over a number of years holding senior positions at UAL, SCMB and BoE Securities.

Prior to accepting the appointment as Group CEO at Assupol in May 2010, he was managing director of SEI Investments (South Africa) Ltd where he also served on the global management team of SEI – a position he held for eight years. He is also a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Institute of Directors.
