"Januhairy" is the newest trend taking over in 2024

Numerous social media users have revealed that they will be taking part in the “Januhairy” challenge.
2024 started strong, with many people making resolutions trying to be better this year.
The start of the year also comes with numerous challenges, like Dry January, which sees people giving up alcohol for the month of January.
The newest challenge taking over social media is Januhairy.

So, what exactly does this mean?
Well, it's pretty self-explanatory, really; Januhairy is a contraction of the words "January" and "hairy" and sees people ditching any form of hair removal.
The Citizen reports that this challenge isn't actually new, as it was launched five years ago on social media by a British student named Laura Jackson.
The idea is to avoid hair removal and embrace your body as is.
"I grew out my body hair for a performance as part of my drama degree in May 2018," she explains in an Instagram post dating from 2 January 2019.

She continues: "Though I felt liberated and more confident in myself, some people around me didn’t understand why I didn’t shave/didn’t agree with it. I realised that there is still so much more for us to do to be able to accept one another fully and truly. Then I thought of Januhairy and thought I would try it out. It's a start at least…"
