For the past few weeks, many South Africans have been obsessing over the Checkers Little Shop minis collectables, which made a comeback on 23 September.

Since its relaunch, consumers have been receiving one collectable for every R200 purchase at Checkers, Checkers Hyper, Checkers Foods, and Checkers Sixty60, fuelling the race to collect them all.

Many people flocked to Checkers stores to get their hands on the Little Shop minis. Some became so invested that they started swapping duplicate collectables with others.

Taking it a step further, some even began selling them on platforms like WhatsApp groups and Facebook Marketplace.

Although most people listed their minis for a few hundred rands, South Africans were shocked when one Facebook user listed the rare Vitality Trolley mini for a staggering R5,500.

For many, there was nothing quite as disappointing as spending a large amount of money at Checkers, expecting to receive new Little Shop minis, only to reach the till and discover they're "sold out".

Speaking to The Citizen, Shoprite Holdings confirmed: "All stores have now run out of minis."
