LOOK: Tiny R43,500 apartment shocks world
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
A video showing an extremely tiny London apartment, which costs R43,500 per month, has set social media ablaze.
Many South Africans look to countries abroad for what they think would be new and better opportunities.
Although many find the opportunities they are looking for, the grass is not always greener on the other side.
In a recent post on X, user Peché Africa shared a video of the type of apartment R43,500 (£1,850) per month gets you in central London.

The "tour" of the tiny apartment shocked social media users when they realised it was actually just a small bedroom and an even smaller bathroom.

The ridiculously small apartment sparked quite a bit of controversy online and garnered hundreds of comments.
Many South Africans were stunned by the outrageous size and the even more outrageous price.
"I stayed in London for two years; that place is hell. We have it good here, and we don't realise it," commented one user.
"But this space is no different to student res," said another.

Others, however, reminded people that conversion is not always the best practice.
"Remember, there aren't any conversions when you are there; a thousand pounds remains a thousand pounds."
"I always tell people to not convert, the conversion will kill You...in London £1000 is just that."
"But I don't think £1850 feels like R43 000 when you live in London. It probably feels like R1850. What kind of accommodation would you get for R1850 in SA? So converting doesn't always paint the right picture."
Some users also questioned the credibility of the video. One user shared this video of a £1,600 apartment in East London (that's London in Europe, not East London in South Africa):
