Major changes coming to one of SA's biggest highways
Shorter travel times could be coming for South Africa's "busiest road"...
Since June 2022, contactless payment methods have been implemented at limited lanes and toll plazas across South Africa.
This piloted payment method was first implemented at limited locations to ensure any hiccups along the road are dealt with before a wider rollout.
Now, the time has finally come to extend the convenience to one of South Africa's busiest highways.

According to TopAuto, over 80 toll gate lanes on the N3 highway will receive these contactless payment points before the end of 2024.
This will allow motorists to simply tap-and-go the scanner and be on their way.
Contactless payment points will be fixed at the De Hoek, Mooi River, Tugela, and Wilge plazas and their accompanying on and off ramps.
TopAuto reports that the implementation of these contactless pay points will reduce travel time on what is often referred to as South Africa's busiest highway.
Gone are the days when motorists had to wait to receive their change or for the employees to return their cards.
Another great feature that will be implemented is that motorists can pay with their debit cards, and all Mastercard and Visa cards and devices such as smartphones and smartwatches will be supported.

The tap-and-go pay points will also likely reduce card cloning or skimming at toll plazas.
Previously, First National Bank (FNB), which is collaborating with the N3 Toll Concession (N3TC), said that these systems could not be fully implemented due to a lack of internet connectivity at toll gates.
This has improved over the past two years, and FNB and the N3TC are now confident in implementing more contactless pay points.
"Feedback from the pilot has been highly positive as contactless payments continue to be popular amongst consumers as a quick, secure, and convenient way to pay than swiping or inserting a card," FNB Transact Pillar CEO Daniel Kaan told MyBroadband.
