Tragedy struck on Saturday after a "well-known street man" from Malmesbury ended up under the wheels of a truck after being pushed by a thirteen-year-old boy.

Gert Coetzee died on the scene after his head ended up under the truck's wheels at the moment it started moving forward.

The incident reportedly happened at 12:00 on Saturday near the Engen petrol station on Voortrekker Road, and Malmesbury police have since opened a case of culpable homicide.

Capt. Frederick van Wyk, police spokesperson, said the 58-year-old man allegedly had an argument with a teenager.

Van Wyk stated that a boy pushed the man. He then fell, and the truck ran over him.

"The man was fatally injured. A thirteen-year-old boy was arrested and later released into the care of his parents," said Van Wyk.

According to Netwerk24, the boy will appear in the Malmesbury Magistrate's Court once he is charged.

Video footage of the incident has sent social media into a frenzy. Watch the video here.

CCTV footage taken at a gas station shows Coetzee standing on a sidewalk in front of the truck's rear wheels and appears to be conversing with a young boy.

Moments later, the boy seemed to kick the 58-year-old man, causing him to fall back and land under the rear wheel.

Unfortunately, the truck also started moving forward at that moment.
