Mbombela's 79-year-old veteran swimmer wins world title!

A 79-year-old veteran swimmer from Mbombela claimed a gold medal during the World Aquatics Masters Championships in Japan.
Geraldine Janssens, a 79-year-old from Mbombela, made Mpumalanga and the whole of South Africa proud when she won a gold medal during the World Aquatics Masters Championships in Japan.

According to the Lowvelder, Janssens had already been making waves within the Mpumalanga and South African swimming scene before claiming her world title.
The 79-year-old set her sights on the 200m backstroke after her 36-hour flight to the Fukuoka City in Japan on 7 August.
Janssens managed to claim the title after she finished with a time of 3:44, which was eight seconds faster than her closest competition.

Janssens was elated with her efforts, but is glad to be back to enjoy some rest after the journey, the Lowvelder reports.
