One SA private school ranks among top 100 worldwide
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
A well-known South African private school has made the list of the top 100 private schools in 2024.
In recent years, there has been a lot of concern over the standards of South Africa's education system.
While these concerns aren't unwarranted, there might be some hope, especially for those who can attend private schools in the country.
A new worldwide ranking of the top 100 private schools in 2024, published by Spear's Magazine in partnership with Thuso, included one South African private school.

Michaelhouse, a private senior boys' school situated in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, managed to claim one of the top spots in the ranking.
The prestigious school not only ranked in the top 100, but also in the 'Top Recommended' category.
According to BusinessTech, the ranking, which was developed in collaboration with expert educationalists within the international team at Thuso, is currently in its fifth year of existence.
Although academic success is the key measurement on the list, Spear's Magazine reported that it is not the only thing that matters, as several other key principles are also considered.
"Leading schools are not necessarily the most 'academic': A wide range of social, cultural, and pastoral factors have been weighed in finalising the index. In some cases, schools with strong academics have been omitted where they fall short in relation to these wider considerations," it said.
The list also considered schools' reputations, as reputation shapes and influences a school's character, the parents and pupils it attracts, and its position regionally and internationally.

The Spear's Schools Index 2024 has been divided into eight different categories based on geographic region.
These regions include North America, the UK, Europe, Switzerland, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, and the rest of the world.
South Africa was placed in the "rest of the world" category where Michaelhouse places third overall.
