SA beach named second-best beach in the world
A South African beach was named the second-best beach in the world by the Golden Beach Awards.
South Africa is renowned for its incredible landscape, diverse fauna and flora and stunning beaches, so it should come as no shock that one of our beaches was named the second-best in the world.
Cape Town’s iconic Boulders Beach near Simon's Town, famous for its local inhabitants, the African penguins, has claimed the second spot on BeachAtlas' Golden Beach Awards 2024.

The crystal clear blue waters and powdery white sand of Bora Bora managed to make its way to the top spot out of 100 of the world’s best beaches, which were assess by BeachAtlas.
The Golden Beach Awards not only focused on the visual allure of the beaches but also considered diverse criteria such as the value to the local community, DEI, lifestyle offerings, and cultural significance.
"This broader perspective allowed us to shine a light on those beach gems that typically don't make it onto traditional, unidimensional 'best beach' lists," said the Golden Beach Awards report.
BeachAtlas invited selected travel experts and influencers from around the world to curate this list by voting based on the following criteria:
- Classic Beauty
- DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion)
- Natural Diversity
- Party and Lifestyle
- Community
- Cultural significance
The Top 100 beaches were shortlisted according to the criteria, ensuring a diverse and inclusive selection rooted in data.

Travel experts and influencers then voted on these beaches, adding their personal insights to refine and help rank the list.
