“Trending SA” returns to SABC 3 with Elma Smit as one of the hosts!
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
We cannot wait to watch Elma Smit in on the new, reimagined Trending SA!
The much-anticipated Trending SA is back on SABC 3 weekdays from the 3rd August 2020 and this time in primetime at 18H00.
Trending SA is a live studio based daily talk show where three hosts with distinct opposing views discuss trending topics, joined by the 4th perspective… South Africa.
Trending SA is where different views converge, putting a face and giving a voice to each side of the story. The show says what you really want to say, asks what you’ve wanted to ask, pays tribute to the deserving and pats you on the shoulder to say that you aren’t alone.
Trending SA remains edgy, bold and most importantly has heart. It is a true leader in social commentary.
This time around Trending SA is hosted by three notable hosts, Elma Smit, Refiloe Mpakanyane and Mablerh. However, new hosts are not the only new elements promised to SABC 3 viewers. The show is hitting the screens with a wealth of exciting offerings. Each week, the panelists will table an introspective debate sure to spark and inspire South Africa to join in on the conversation. Trending SA will also invite thought leaders and experts from different industries for insightful and impactful interviews. Friday kicks off the weekend with all things sports, a little bit of play, and a supersized round table discussion with influencers analysing and weighing in on top stories of the week.
Elma is perhaps best recognised as a sport host in South Africa and through much of the cricket and rugby-loving world for her work on two World Cups in 2019, for global sport governing bodies the International Cricket Council and World Rugby. She worked as an ICC Insider at the Cricket World Cup in England and then produced and hosted the world's most watched daily digital show of the year, RWC Daily, in Japan later in 2019. Her love affair with broadcasting dates back to her start in community radio during her schooldays. Since then, she's spent over a decade in many different radio roles at 5FM (presenting, producing, compiling the playlist, etc.). These days she's the sport anchor on the Breakfast with Martin Bester on Jacaranda FM.
Elma made a big splash back in 2011 when she became the first woman ever to report on a Rugby World Cup tournament for SuperSport from New Zealand. She followed this up with 9 years of rugby reporting from sidelines and studios for the sports broadcaster, covering Varsity Cup, Currie Cup, Super Rugby, Springbok tours, test matches and also the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England. In between she also spent nearly three years hosting wildly popular breakfast TV show Dagbreek and in 2016 she created, produced and hosted a rugby-cooking show called Buite Die Lyne.
Don’t miss Trending SA for your daily dose of exclusive stories and your chance to make your voice heard live every Monday to Friday in primetime at 18:00 from the 3rd of August 2020 on SABC 3, “The Stage Is Yours Own It!”
