In an interview with PEOPLE, Manidis said he "was looking out of the window and noticed the optical illusion right as [the plane was] landing."
He added that he "was recording videos of the beautiful views before noticing the weird illusion."
Of course, the internet had a lot to say about the peculiar video.

One user responded to the post, writing, "They're just buffering." Another posted, "There's a glitch in the matrix."
Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you view it, there is a logical explanation for this occurrence.
According to PEOPLE, planes may encounter headwinds and tailwinds during a flight. Tailwinds come from behind the aircraft, allowing travellers to reach their destination quicker; headwinds can slow a plane down.
Some headwinds can be so strong that the plane could appear stagnant in the sky, but actually, it’s just moving very slowly.
Another explanation could also be the Parallax illusion.

"Parallax is the observed displacement of an object caused by the change of the observer's point of view," according to SPACE.com.
One X user responded to Manidis’s video posting, "Bc of the bridge: best video for this illusion so far."
This was in reference to how the plane does not appear to move over the highway due to how Manidis's camera view curves around the massive bridge
