According to Business Day, waste-pickers collect as much as 80% of the country's waste, as well as packaging and paper material.
Johannesburg has a total of 6,000 waste-pickers who clean our areas, but also make a living from the waste. According to the World Bank, SA is also one of the most unequal countries in the world.
