Is your partner's snoring impacting your sleep? Here's what to do...
Updated | By Etienne Bruwer
Snoring can have a serious impact on a person's sleep and general health!
According to Mayo Clinic, snoring is a harsh sound that occurs when air flows past relaxed tissues in your throat, causing the tissues to vibrate as you breathe.
Reports also show that snoring can be related to an array of health issues and sleep-related breathing disorders.

News24 reported that snoring is a common symptom of the sleep-related breathing disorder, sleep apnea, which could lead to potential obesity, hypertension, stroke, and motor vehicle or workplace accidents.
Although sleep apnea could have severe health risks, the health risks of snoring itself are less clear.

According to News24, there are many options for those seeking to relieve the effects of severe snoring or potential sleep-related breathing disorders.
These include:
- Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy. CPAP is commonly used to treat sleep apnea by using a machine that delivers air at a specific pressure to the nose and/or mouth via a mask to keep the upper airway open.
- A mouthguard, which is designed to move the jaw forward and increase the size of the airway.
- Upper airway surgery to surgically open up the airways.
- Weight loss which could help with reducing excess tissue obstructing the airways
- Sleeping on your side
