The number of positive cases in the country’s prisons now sit at 213, with recoveries at 91.
Last week, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that approximately 19 000 prisoners would be released on parole to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The qualifying prisoners are those deemed as “low risk inmates”.
These do not include those serving time for murder and attempted murder, gender-bases violence, rape, sexual offences or child abuse.
