24 confirmed Covid-19 cases at EC schools

The Department of Education in Eastern Cape says there are 24 confirmed cases of coronavirus at schools in the province.

Grade 7 and 12 pupils returned to schools on Monday after schools closed in March due the outbreak of Covid-19 in the country.

Reports indicate that 29 schools in the Eastern Cape have had to close since the resumption of the academic year.
Provincial spokesperson Loyiso Pulumani could only confirm that several schools have had to close their doors.
"Positive cases comprises of 17 teachers, 4 learners and 3 non-teaching staff and what we have done through contact tracing through the department of health we have also identified an additional 48 people who are under investigation,” he said.
"In all of those instances schools have been closed and they are being sanitised, fumigated and cleaned."
