SA sees biggest jump in new Covid-19 cases

Over 8 000 new cases of the coronavirus have been recorded in South Africa, making this the single biggest daily increase since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country.
The daily reported released by the department of health shows that at least 8 124 people have been infected with the virus as of Wednesday.
The total number of infections in the country now stands at 159 333.

Covid-19 related deaths also continue to increase with a further 92 reported in the 24 hours leading up to Wednesday evening.
The health department says 37 people succumbed to the virus in the Western Cape, 28 in Gauteng, 17 in the Eastern Cape and 10 in KwaZulu-Natal.
The mortality rate remains at 1.7%.
