Updated | By AFP
Brazil's world-renowned Christ the Redeemer statue was lit
up on Wednesday night, in the spirit of spreading unity with communities,
countries and continents waging the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 38-meter tall statue in Rio de Janeiro was lit up with flags and the names of those countries so far infected with the coronavirus.
The Christ the Redeemer statue, which sees 2 million visitors a year, has been closed as part of measures by the Brazilian government to curb the spread of the virus.
A total of 529 cases of the COVID-19 virus have been confirmed in the country, with four deaths.
