Updated | By Sibahle Motha
A total of 132 schools in the Eastern Cape have had to temporarily shut their doors due to Covid-19.
The number was confirmed by spokesperson Mvusiwekhaya Sicwetsha on Monday evening.
Sicwetsha says the schools had to close after Covid-19 cases were reported.

“The information we have, there were reports of infection and in some instances there were workers that were infected. Forty of those schools have been reopened while others are being decontaminated as we speak.
“So the plan is that when the learners and staff come back there won’t be a virus on the premises.”
It’s unclear when the schools will be opened, but it’s expected that the process of screening and decontamination will take at least three days.
