Covid-19 death toll in SA rises to 1 210

The Covid-19 pandemic has claimed the lives of 1 210 people in the country.

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize says in his daily statement that 48 people lost their lives in the 24 hours leading up to Wednesday night.
In the Western Cape, another 37 lives were lost, nine passed away in the Eastern Cape and two in KwaZulu Natal.
"We extend our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased," says Mkhize.
The minister says 2 430 new infections have been recorded which brings the total number of infections to 55 421.
"The recoveries to date are 31 505 - this translates to a recovery rate of 56,8%," says Mkhize.
