Covid-19 death toll in Gauteng approaching 1000

The number of Covid-19 related deaths in Gauteng is nearing the 1 000-mark.

According to the daily Covid-19 statistics released by Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize on Monday night, Gauteng now has 999 deaths.
However, the Western Cape still contributes towards the bulk of Covid-19 deaths, standing at 2 669.
A total of 5173 deaths have thus far been recorded across the country since the beginning of the pandemic.

The total number of coronavirus cases increased to 373 628, which demonstrates an increase of 9 300 in the 24 hours up to Monday evening.
Gauteng continues to be the country’s epicentre, followed by the Western and Eastern Cape.
To date, there have been 194 865 recoveries - with the recovery rate now standing at 52%.
