Covid-19 specimens stolen in Eastern Cape hijacking

A courier truck carrying Covid-19 specimens was hijacked in Port Elizabeth on Monday afternoon.
It’s understood that the truck picked up two boxes of specimens at a local clinic and was then hijacked at gunpoint.
Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane revealed the hijacking on Tuesday while addressing media.
He said while the truck was recovered some 500 meters down the road, but the boxes containing the Covid-19 specimens are still missing.
“Criminals took a huge container with specimen. We condemn this act of criminality.”
Mabuyane urged members of the public to come forward with any information.
“Anyone who sees a white container box mist report it to police.

The two suspects, aged 36 and 44, were arrested at the Beitbridge Border Post. Limpopo police spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo says police were on a routine patrol at the border post when they spotted a suspicious petrol tanker. "Five hundred and twenty-three master boxes containing thousands of cartoons of illicit cigarettes were found hidden in a specially made compartment in the tanker."
