DA wants ‘big and bold’ stimulus package from Ramaphosa
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
Democratic Alliance (DA) interim leader John Steenhuisen says the party hopes President Cyril Ramaphosa will announce a massive economic stimulus package to assist businesses and families across the country.
Ramaphosa is set to address South Africans on the government’s expanded social and economic relief amid the coronavirus crisis on Tuesday.
"We are hoping he will announce a big and bold stimulus package,” says Steenhuisen.
“We hope he will take on board the suggestions we have put to him and we will certainly be watching carefully where the government is going to get the money from.”

Steenhuisen warns that the DA will not allow the government to obtain funding from the Public Investment Corporation (PIC).
“What we should be doing is looking toward the International Monetary Fund where we can get beneficial loans specifically set up to deal with Covid-19 without putting our economy at risk.”
Steenhuisen adds that the party wants Ramaphosa to look into softening the lockdown to allow for the resumption of economic activity.
