David Makhura tests positive for Covid-19
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
Gauteng Premier David Makhura has tested positive for Covid-19, it was announced on Friday.
Makhura is the third premier to test positive for Covid-19, following Western Cape Premier Alan Winde and his North West counterpart Job Mokgoro.
In a statement on Friday, Makhura said he went for a test on Thursday after experiencing mild symptoms the previous day.
"I received my test results on Friday confirming that I have tested positive for Covid-19. I am now in self-isolation, in line with the WHO protocols and will work from home over the next 14 days whilst monitoring my health.”
Makhura said the provincial cabinet and coronavirus command council will continue with its work amid the surge in infections in the province.
"The primary focus of our response is to limit the number of infections and save more lives. We must double our efforts because Gauteng is once again the epicenter of Covid-19.”
