Govt extends TERS scheme until August

Government has decided to extend the Covid-19 Temporary Employee Relief Scheme (TERS) until August 15.
The scheme was originally only meant to run until the end of June.
Since April 16, the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) has paid some R34-billion in TERS benefit claims, covering 7.4-million workers from more than 500 000 employers.
Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Boitumelo Moloi told MP’s during a debate on the department’s adjusted budget on Tuesday that this follows President Cyril Ramaphosa decision to extend the State of Disaster.
"The benefit structure and the existing criteria remains the same and application of April and May will be close by the end of July 2020.
"Although the applications already received for the two mouths have been processed, this is the guarantee we give our people," said Moloi.
