Health authorities secure court order to disperse Katlehong church
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
With a prohibition on gathering of more than 100 people as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus in South Africa, the Gauteng Department of Health says it was forced to obtain a court order against a church in Katlegong, South of Johannesburg.

The department’s spokesperson, Kwara Kekana says concerns surrounding the church’s gathering were reported to the Department by the community where the church is based.
“The church has been interdicted and restrained with immediate effect from convening a church service that is not in accordance with the gazetted regulations as released by the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs,” says Kekana
Kekana added that mass gatherings expose people to great risk.
Earlier this week the Department obtained a court order against a family who refused to be quarantined after testing positive for COVID-19.
Police Minister, Bheki Cele earlier today said they will act against any church that fail to comply with the gazetted regulations.

Cele says the spotters will be members of the SAPS. "Others will be in uniform, others won't be in uniform, but there will be given the information to the units that will respond as they are called," he says. "You might see them. You might not see them."
