Lesufi: Covid-19 grant relieving food parcel pressure
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Acting Gauteng Social Development MEC Panyaza Lesufi believes the new Covid-19 grant will relieve some of the pressure on government to provide food parcels.

Lesufi received donations from several companies on Friday, including MTN and Albany as well as the Grace Bible Church in Soweto.
"We welcome all the groups that are donating, we really appreciate the support,” said Lesufi.
“The demand is huge and the government is trying to supplement the food parcels, but we know that we have the Covid grant that is coming out as well. It will go a long way to alleviate the pressure from food parcels.”
He added: "Let's allow those who cannot get anything to get the food parcels that are available.”
Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu on Thursday confirmed that more than 3.5 million people have applied for the new Covid-19 within three days of the system going live.
Those who are eligible to benefit from the grant will receive the first payment of R350 on Friday.
