Ramathuba briefed the media in Polokwane on Monday.

The MEC says health experts in her department claim that even children with SARS or flu will not get sick from Covid-19.

"There are children with severe heart disease, with a compromised immune system, children with cancer and those children whose HIV is not controllable should not come to school.

"Parents must consult us as a Department of Health, we will assign a paediatrician to that child who would advise accordingly to what must happen to that child.”

Ramathuba believes teachers are more likely to infect each other than contracting the virus while in the classrooms.

The MEC's department has recommended that non-essential activities should not be allowed at school grounds.
