Makhura: All Covid-19 tenders to be probed by SIU
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
Gauteng Premier David Makhura says all Covid-19 tenders awarded by the province will be probed by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU).
This follows allegations of corruption in the awarding of personal protective equipment (PPE) tenders worth over R1 billion by the provincial government.
Gauteng Health MEC Dr Bandile Masuku has been placed on special following allegations levelled against him, his wife Loyiso and President Cyril Ramaphosa’s spokesperson Khusela Diko.
Makhura made the announcement at the weekly update on the progress made in the province’s battle against Covid-19.

He said the allegations surrounding PPE procurements has had a negative effect on the province.
"It has eroded public confidence in the provincial government that I lead. Based on that we are now just doing all covid19 procurement, not just PPE is also under the SIU investigation.
“Infrastructure-related procurement. That would include the programme we had under food relief. All that is under full investigation.”
Makhura vowed that, as the SIU reports are released, the provincial government would be taking action.
