Mbalula happy with Covid-19 progress at Rea Vaya
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula says he is happy with the changes made at Rea Vaya to bring it into line with the Covid-19 regulations.
Mbalula was back at the Dobsonville Depo in Soweto on Thursday.
During his visit last week, Mbalula threatened to shut down the transit system and disallow the movement of transport.
He was unhappy with the lack of implementation of Covid-19 restrictions on Rea Vaya buses, especially social distancing.
"One of the things we picked up from the last visit is that everything else in terms of safety measures has been done, sanitation and disinfection.
“But there was a big challenge in terms of social distancing in the buses and we met with the CEO and management of Rea Vaya who then made commitments and agreed to immediately take up and address that particular challenge.”

Last time we were here there were challenges in regards to social distance inside the busses. I am happy to see now they are carefully marked and adhering to the capacity limit we’ve placed for all transport. #LockdownSA pic.twitter.com/7wwguGy9nG
