Deputy Finance Minister David Masondo will head a new unit to spearhead government’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
This was announced by Finance Minister, Tito Mboweni, during a debate on Treasury’s readjusted budget during a virtual sitting of Parliament on Thursday.
"We are all concerned that the pandemic has impacted so negatively on our economic performances and there it is one of the duties of the National Treasury to coordinate a response to this crisis.
"In this respect, I have requested Dr Masondo, the deputy minister of finance, to coordinate the government efforts in an economic revival, implement structural reforms with all our colleagues.
"And I asked him to lead what I call Vulindlela Unit which will help coordinate this effort," said Mboweni.
