A newborn baby, who tested positive for Covid-19 at a Durban hospital, is said to be doing well.
Dr Ayoob Bux, chairperson at Durban’s Ahmed Al Kadi, says the infant's mother tested positive for the virus.
She gave birth to the baby boy via C-Section at the Mayville-based facility a week and a half ago.
Bux says the mother and her baby, who were both asymptomatic, were discharged after being monitored for a few days.

He says: “The baby was born very healthy, the mother was healthy and both showed not too many symptoms and after a day or two they were discharged."
He adds that 80 to 90 percent of Covid-19 patients are fine and many of them are also asymptomatic.
Bux says the baby was not classified as high risk.
"The risk of the baby becoming sick because of testing positive are very slim. Most of these babies do very well and they recover quickly."
