Petition to lift ban on cigarette sales garners over 500k signatures
Updated | By Nomfundo Ngcobo
A petition calling for the lifting of the ban on cigarette sales was started following the president's announcement on Sunday that the ban would continue during level 3 of the lockdown.

The petition, called ‘Lift the ban on cigarette sales in SA’, was started by South Africans who feel the ban is unjustified.
Beverly McClain, who started the petition, says to date it has garnered over 580 000 signatures from both smokers and non-smokers.
She says there is a possibility of a march to Parliament and the withholding of tax payments until the government listens to their complaints.
"As South Africa's collective voice rises so too does the deafening silence from government who's refusing to listen to its citizens. South Africans are furious.
"We're calling for government to give them the evidence that shows why South Africa is the only country in the world that had banned cigarette sales during the lockdown."
