Ramaphosa to start level 3 consultations at Nedlac
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
President Cyril Ramaphosa will on Friday start the consultation process as the government looks to move the country down to level 3 of the lockdown regulations.
Ramaphosa is set to host a virtual meeting with the National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac).
The Presidency’s Khusela Diko says the meeting is the start of widespread consultations with government, labour and business.
“President Cyril Ramaphosa has been in continuous consultation with various sectors of society on management of the national state of disaster since government first acted to limit the outbreak or the corona virus.”
It is still not clear when the consultations will be concluded, but Ramaphosa said on Thursday that he hopes it will be done as soon as possible.
“Once that consultation process is done, we will be then be able to make an announcement because our direction is to go to level three,” he said on a visit to the Eastern Cape.
It has not been confirmed which parts of the country will be moved to lockdown level 3 and which of the so-called hot-spots will remain on level 4.
Ramaphosa reiterated that areas which have the largest concentration of Covid-19 cases may remain on level 4 in order to curb the further spread of the virus.
