Rapid spread of coronavirus caught govt by surprise: Mkhize
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize, says the rapid spread of the
coronavirus caught government by surprise.
Mkhize made the remarks on Thursday evening, while addressing the South African Medical Association (SAMA).
The minister says he expected the number of people infected with COVID-19 in the country, to have suprassed 200.
Government announced on Thursday that the country has a total of 150 cases.
"Fourteen days ago, we panicked with one patient, I can tell you we got even more surprised to see the rapid increase - because two days later it started at three and moved in that direction," says Mkhize.
Mkhize urges doctors to work together with government to curb the increase of the virus.
