Record 6579 new Covid-19 cases reported

The country has reported a record high 6579 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24-hour cycle.

This is the highest number of cases recorded in a cycle.
This brings the number of cumulative cases to 118 375.
The Western Cape and Gauteng remain the hardest hit, while the Northern Cape only accounts for 318 of the total cases.
At least 50% of these patients have recovered.

The provincial command council gave an update on the latest Covid-19 developments on Thursday. Lesufi said the bulk of these new infections did not occur on school grounds. "Unfortunately, we've got 176 schools that have been affected. Of those 176 - 58 learners tested positive and 188 educators also tested positive.
“Regrettably, we report a further 87 Covid-19 related deaths - two from Gauteng, 15 from KwaZulu-Natal, 17 from Eastern Cape from 53 Western Cape,” a statement from Health Minister Zweli Mkhize reads.
“This brings the total deaths to 2 292.”
As of Thursday, 1 460 012 tests have been conducted nationally.
