Record one-day jump in Covid-19 cases, 10 new deaths

South Africa has seen a record increase in the number of Covid-19 cases with 316 new cases reported on Thursday.
This is the highest one-day increase since the start of the outbreak in March.
The total number of cases now sits at 3953.
The Department of Health says while it is concerned at the steady increase in the number of positive cases, it is pleased with the intensified community screening and testing campaign.
“This allows us to take the necessary actions such as isolation, quarantine or hospitalisation if required,” the department said in a statement.
“The epidemiologists also continue to analyse these trends to in order for the country to better understand the impact of the outbreak as it unfolds.”

“It is also notable that today the Western Cape has surpassed Gauteng’s confirmed cases and now has the highest number of COVID-19 positive cases in the country. A further analysis is being done as we are observing outbreak clusters in the Western Cape. “
Ten new Covid-19 deaths have also been reported, bringing the tally up to 75.
