Record spike in SA Covid-19 deaths

South Africa recorded 173 new Covid-19 related deaths in one day – the highest increase in daily deaths since the pandemic was first detected in the country.
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said in his daily report that the country's death toll had surged to 3 199.
Gauteng recorded the most deaths at 71, in the Western Cape there were 41 deaths as well as 29 from the Eastern Cape, 10 from the Free State and two in the Northern Cape.

On Sunday, 8773 new cases of Covid-19 infections were recorded taking the number of total infections to 196 750.
The recovery rate continued to dip below 50%, now standing at 47.7%
