Red Cross helping to trace Free State church members for self-quarantine
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
The Minister of Health, Zweli Mkhize, has announced that the Red Cross will assist government in tracing 285 church members to avoid spreading the COVID-19 Coronavirus.
This comes after five international travellers visited Bloemfontein in the Free State and attended a church service of between 200 and 300 people.
Two of the international travellers have been confirmed to have tested positive for COVID-19 and are currently in quarantine.
“The five who were found to be positive with Coronavirus were quarantined in a bed and breakfast, (and) all the staff of the establishment are also quarantined,” says Mkhize
Religious leaders have subsequently been prohibited from hosting large gatherings as a precautionary measure to limit the risk for the spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus.
Mkhize urged church leaders who still have church services to continue monitoring all attendees who may show symptoms of the Coronavirus.
“We also want to encourage church leaders and the communities that those who have symptoms of any cold, sneezing, coughing, or fever should stay away from the church gathering because that will help to make sure we limit the risk to everyone else,” says Mkhize.
