SA Covid-19 cases top 30 000, death toll at 643

South Africa reported more than 1 700 new cases, bringing the total up to 30 967.
Minister of Health, Zweli Mkhize confirmed the latest statistics on Saturday night.
"As of today, the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Africa is 30 967, with 1727 new cases reported from the last 24 hour testing cycle," Mkhize said in a statement.
"The recoveries to date are 16 116 which translates to a recovery rate of 52%."
The total national death toll now stands at 643, after 32 more Covid-19 related deaths were recorded.
The number of males who have died of coronavirus in the country outnumber female deaths, with 52,6% of fatalities being male and 47,4% female.
The lastes figures show that two children, aged 0-9 years, as well as two young people, aged 10-19, have died since the start of the pandemic.
The Western Cape remains the province with the highest number of confirmed cases and fatalities.

On Saturday night, there were at least 6,000,867 cases of coronavirus recorded and 366,848 deaths. Europe remains the continent hardest hit by the pandemic, with 2,135,170 cases and 177,595 deaths. The tallies, using data collected by AFP from national authorities and information from the World Health Organization (WHO), probably reflect only a fraction of the actual number of infections.
