SA has backlog of 100 000 Covid-19 tests - Alan Winde

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde claims there is a nationwide backlog of 100 000 Covid-19 tests.
Winde was speaking during an online press briefing on Thursday.
He said the province had to find a way to reserve tests in hospitals.
"We have to reserve tests in our hospitals for our healthcare professionals but also to make decisions in hospitals on whether people should go to covid-19 wards or perhaps to just get treatment for the regular flu.

"That is important because we are testing under such severe pressure at the moment. I think we at 100 000 tests behind the backlog in South Africa.
On Monday, Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize told the National Council of Provinces that the global shortage of Covid-19 test kits is also a challenge in South Africa.
To date, the total number of tests conducted in private and public laboratories is 634 996.
