Updated | By Lulutho Mkhosi
South African National Parks (Sanparks)will be closing all
national parks on Wednesday, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This comes after President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a national lockdown from midnight on Thursday 26 March until April 16 to curb the recent surge in coronavirus cases.
There are currently 554 people who have tested positive in the country
In a statement shared on social media, Sanparks says all guests from high-risk countries currently residing in the parks have been instructed not to leave.
"We have requested our staff to exercise outmost compassion and respect towards our guests to get us all through this crisis."
"If you can, we urge you to postpone rather than cancel the balance of your stay. We would like to see you back in our parks in the near future," reads the statement.
