An unauthorised private chartered plane landed at OR Tambo International Airport from Harare on Wednesday, says the Department of Transport.
The plane had one passenger on board.
The department's spokesperson Ayanda Allie-Payne says the flight was not cleared with the department - which is required during the national lockdown.

"The passenger and the crew were held at the airport whilst the airport sought guidance on how to handle the flight.
"Subsequently, a decision was made that the passenger, who is an Italian national holding a South African passport, would not be allowed to enter the country.”
She says the police were called to assist after the passenger initially refused to leave.
"The flight left the South African airspace…returning to Harare."
Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula has warned that steps will be taken against anyone found guilty of wrongdoing.
