The province sat on 10 558 confirmed cases and 183 deaths on Monday.

Experts say the numbers are doubling every eight days, Winde said, but the necessary measures are in place.

"We are tracking according to the specialist. We are doubling every eight days.

"I want to say we need to remain calm. We need to understand we've our systems and responses in place and we all need to make sure we follow the golden rules of social distancing, stay home as much possible, wash your hands.”

Meanwhile, Cape Town Mayor Dan Plato has hit back at the ANC, which is calling for his suspension around the distribution of food aid.

The ANC in Cape Town is accusing Plato of defying a government directive after he distributed food parcels to communities during the lockdown.

This is despite all councillors being prohibited to do so.

The party also accuses the Mayor of only distributing the parcels to DA supporters.

Plato's spokesperson Greg Wagner said the city is doing everything possible to ensure that they help those in need.

"This is done together with NGOs, religious leaders and residents who assist the city to ensure that aid reaches those in need across the city and without discrimination.”
