Wits medical student tests positive for coronavirus

A medical student from Wits University has tested positive for coronavirus.
The student has been in self-quarantine since Wednesday after coming into contact with a person who tested positive for COVID-19.

University spokesperson Shirona Patel says the student attended classes on Monday and Tuesday without knowing that he had contracted the virus.
“The cancellation of all contact classes for the Graduate Entry Medical Programme 1 - MBBCh 3 classes. All students in the affected student's class have been instructed to go into self-quarantine for 14 days with immediate effect.”
Patel says students who shared a class with the affected student will be tested.
“The faculty is personally reaching out to each of the 350 students who could be affected. They will receive the full support of the faculty, including the requisite monitoring and testing.”
